Best of 2007 Reissues
A few reissues which didn’t make my best of 2007 post…

David Crosby – If I Could Only Remember My Name
David Crosby – Cowboy Movie
We all know Crosby was the spaced-out paranoid one from CS&N, but he was also the one who liked to rock. Great mostly-forgotten record which sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. Music is love, indeed.

ESG – A South Bronx Story and A South Bronx Story II
ESG – You’re No Good
Every time I play these records I love them more and I can’t believe I didn’t hear them until last year. Jay Babcock hipped me to this stuff when the reissues came back and they actually did a few shows. Absolutely essential. Both of ‘em.

Aretha Franklin – Rare & Unreleased Recordings From The Golden Reign Of The Queen Of Soul
Aretha Franklin – I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) (Demo)
An incredible compilation of tracks which didn’t make any of the incredible records Aretha made between ‘66 and ‘74. I teared up the first time I heard the track above. She’s untouchable. One of the greatest talents of the century. What are you waiting for? Buy that shit, homey. They didn’t have the MP3s up when I bought it and I had to wait for the god damned CD to arrive. Saw Aretha on Friday night at the MusicCares dinner and she was so personable on stage, made me love her even more.

Dwight Twilley Band – Sincerely and Twilley Don’t Mind
Dwight Twilley Band – Sincerely
You might remember the track “I’m On Fire”. Classic power pop from the 70s. If you’re fans of both Cheap Trick and Big Star (as I am), you’re gonna like it. Go ahead and pull the trigger on the overpriced CD from Australia. I did and it was worth it.

The David Crosby track has great guitar sounds and a pretty cooking groove. That’s messed up. I can’t believe I’m feeling something sincerely positive about CSN.
There was a track from the Aretha on Soulsides a couple months ago. Not the same one, though.

When I submitted that comment the music stopped. Fixme: see about making the aurgasm.us pure-ajax goose-friendly commenting stuff generally available.
