I Can’t Believe I Didn’t Take TV-B-GONE To CES

I bought 20 TV-B-GONEs and gave them away as holiday presents, my third round of TV-B-GONE gifting.

But I can’t believe I didn’t think to take TV-B-GONE to CES. Gizmodo did:

This was sent to me by Rob Meyers, whose friend Steve sent it to him. They sent it my way because they were both at our table at a bar during SXSW a couple years back when TV-B-GONE almost got our asses kicked.

Bob Moz had a near-ass-kicking with the TV-B-GONE I gave him before the holiday break.

Public TVs are pollution,

ps – after I wrote this I am noticing comments in my twitter stream from Jason Calacanis saying this is the lowest Denton has ever sunk…um, really? I think he’s sunk a lot lower than this… it’s a joke, homey. lighten up. turning tvs off isn’t costing anyone their job on either side.

    Hi Ian,

I signed up for your RSS feed after getting an email from Bob about your Media 2.0 Physics post. Hooray for forward thinking!

I couldn’t agree more, Ian — I’ve been getting roundly criticized for saying the same thing: http://www.mathewingram.com/work/2008/01/10/gizmodo-and-ces-whats-the-big-deal/

Man – I remember back in the day, before TV-B-Gone was that sleek little universal remote, and was instead, just your daughter turning off my TV.

Cris, wasn’t that my TV? And did you get your copy of Platinum Body yet or what?

actually, for people who rely on outdoor advertising dollars, it could cost them their jobs…

md, that’s the most ridiculous argument I’ve read yet. To liken turning a TV off to breaking windows… Come on. The whole thing is just silly. Just for that I’m taking my TV-B-GONE to Tully’s next week. You better get down there with some black tape.

If your business relies on outdoor advertising dollars, get a TV with a proprietary protocol. I’m certain my TV-B-GONE won’t work on the giant video ads on Wilshire Blvd.

Honestly I’m ashamed to have written about this meme. Just seems like a bunch of people trying to get in on the mayhem. Stoopid.

hopefully, they engineered around it, but give it a whirl and let me know what happens.
